Maersk Group is based in Copenhagen, Denmark, with subsidiaries and offices in more than 135 countries worldwide and around 108,000 employees, It has been the largest container ship operator and supply vessel operator in the world since 1996. It is a Danish business conglomerate; it is a world leading shipping company taking care of business all over the world. It plays an important part in the logistic industry which makes it the biggest consumer for plastic seals and relative seal products. A.P. Moller – Maersk Group has activities in a variety of business sectors, primarily within the transportation and energy sectors.
Many big manufactures of plastic seals from worldwide regard this magnate as the target of their security items. Faced with the Euro crises and slow down of economy, it still keeps its high growing speed. Involved in global liner shipping services, Maersk Line operates over 550 vessels and has a capacity of 2.2 million TEU (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units). It is currently the largest container shipping company in the world. Maersk Line took delivery of 26 owned vessel in 2008.
The largest container ship in the world to date, the E-class vessel Emma Maersk, was delivered to Maersk Line from Odense Steel Shipyard. Seven other sister ships have since been built, and on 21 February 2011, Maersk ordered 10 even larger container ships from Daewoo, the Triple E class, each with a capacity of 18,000 containers and plastic seals. The first is to be delivered in 2014. There are options for 10–20 more. As of February 2010, Maersk had an order book for new ships totaling 857000TEU; that backlog is larger than the existing fleet of the fourth-largest line, Evergreen Line. Maersk Line is cooperating with the US Navy on testing 7-100% algae bio fuel on the Maersk Kalmar in December 2011.
